Business visit visa / Work visa

Russia's immigration system includes provisions for business visits, work and permanent residence.

Depending on their nationality, business visitors may travel to Russia with a business visa or if eligible, an e-visa. E-visas are typically valid for 30 days and permit an eight-day stay, whereas business visas are granted with a range of validity periods from 30 to 365 days and permit stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Visa issuing officers determine the validity at their discretion and based on the applicant's personal circumstances and the underlying purpose(s) of the trip(s).

The main work authorization route is the Highly Qualified Specialist (HQS) Work Permit, suitable for highly paid local hires. The maximum initial permit validity is three years and renewable.

A Standard Work Permit is available for broader categories of foreign nationals but is rarely used due to strict language criteria and quotas. There is no short-term work authorization category.

Legislation changes often and sometimes drastically. Document requirements and application procedures vary among consular posts, and consular officers may request personal interviews at their discretion.
